The most efficient way of getting to Florence is, undeniably, by air. In this respect, the most convenient alternative refers to landing to the Amerigo Vespucci Airport of Florence, also referred to as the Peretola Airport, which is only about 4 kilometers northwestwards from Florence. This newly modernized airport is the second largest and important venue of this kind in Tuscany, only after the Galileo Galilei International Airport of Pisa, both of them successfully servicing the tourist platform of this region of Italy.

Some 13 airlines operate in Peretola, linking Florence and, implicitly, Tuscany, either directly or not, to other major cities of the world. The proficiency of Peretola is substantiated by the services and facilities it makes available on the premises of the airport, such services and facilities referring to the special assistance offered to disabled people (or to people who, for one reason or another, do not manage to get around in the airport as normal people do), to the 23 check-in desks, to the lounge area (Sala Masaccio), to the lost and found office, to the abundant shopping opportunities and to the several coffee shops and snack joints. A feature which not to be disregarded by any visitor of Florence who wants to explore the city at their own pace refers to the fact that the arrivals terminal of Peretola is the place where several car hire companies operate.

Thus, Sixt, Auto Europa, Hertz, Budget, Avis, Maggiore, Thrifty and Europcar complement, by their presence and services, the proficiency of the services and facilities offered by the Amerigo Vespucci Airport. Furthermore, the connection between Peretola and Florence is covered by the SITA buses which leave/arrive to the airport each half an hour, as from 6am to 11.30pm. Within Florence, these busses leave their passengers on 15 Via Santa Caterina, in close proximity to the train station. An additional and less expensive alternative in terms of airport transfers by bus refers to resorting to bus no. 62, its terminal in Florence being Piazza della Stazione. Finally, taxis and, for who cares for a rather more luxurious transfer, limousines are available close to the passenger terminal of Peretola. Pisa Airport

As mentioned above, the Galileo Galilei International Airport of Pisa is another reliable alternative of getting to Florence by plane. Despite the fact that the Airport of Pisa is some 80 kilometers from Florence, the connections are fairly reliable. Thus, 13 Terravision buses leave from the Airport of Pisa and arrive at the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence each day, tourists having the possibility of purchasing tickets from the Information Desk. Information on departures and arrivals are featured at www.pisa-airport.com. Trains are also advisable for covering the distance between this airport and Florence, and they count as a convenient way of traveling, since the train station is only a few meters from the airport and there are five trains a day which service this transfer. Specific information can be found at www.pisa-airport.com. Car rental is, again, available at the Airport of Pisa in view of diversifying tourists’ alternatives for heading for Florence.
