In terms of scientific topics, the Museum of the History of Science (Palazzo Castellani con Museo di Storia della Scienza or Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza) is, perhaps, the most significant in the entire Florence. It has been hosted by Palazzo Castellani since 1930, and one of its main highlights refers to the room dedicated to Galileo Galilei and to its scientific achievements. The collection proper consists of all sorts of scientific instruments and tools amounting to some 5000 items. These items range from physical and anatomical models, astronomical and cosmographical instruments to equipments used in the past for optical and mathematical measurements. A mechanical writing device and an electrical machine are of particular interest.
