This area of Florence is dominated by history of Medici dynasty and its founder, Cosmino il Vecchio. Cosmino had wished the palaces, libraries, churches and all the other old edifices located in the Northern part of Florence historical centre to last for thousands of years, the same way famous monuments and edifices of Rome last for thousands of years. Cosmino il Vecchio asked famous architects and artists of that era to build the San Lorenzo and San Marco Basilicas as well as the Palazzo Medici Riccardi palace.
