Oltrarno
Oltrarno means "across Arno", the river. The Dukes of Medici Family, the first important family in Florence, settled here for the first time in 1550 and the Pitti Palace became the family's centre of power for almost 300 years. During this time, The Pitti Palace building extended in tandem with the Boboli Gardens surrounding and enriching the architectonic style of the palace.
